Article details

MBR membrane bioreactor (Membrane Bio-Reactor, MBR) is a new type of wastewater treatment system that organically combines membrane separation technology and biological treatment technology. The membrane component replaces the terminal secondary sedimentation tank of traditional biological treatment technology, maintains a high concentration of activated sludge in the bioreactor, improves the organic load of biological treatment, and thus reduces the footprint of sewage treatment facilities, and reduces the amount of residual sludge by maintaining a low sludge load. It mainly uses the activated sludge and macromolecular organic matter in the interception tank of the membrane separation equipment immersed in the aerobic biological pool. The concentration of activated sludge (MLSS) in the membrane bioreactor system can be increased to 8000~10,000mg/L, or even higher; the sludge age (SRT) can be extended to more than 30 days.

Due to its effective interception effect, the membrane bioreactor can retain microorganisms with a long generation cycle, which can achieve deep purification of sewage. At the same time, nitrifying bacteria can fully reproduce in the system, and its nitrification effect is significant, providing the possibility of deep phosphorus removal and nitrogen removal.

Uses Introduction Sewage treatment: China is a water-scarce area, and sewage treatment and reuse are useful measures for the development and utilization of water resources. Sewage reuse is to treat urban sewage and industrial sewage through membrane bioreactors and other equipment, and use them for non-drinking purposes such as beautification, flushing, and replenishing water bodies, while using clean water for drinking and other purposes with high water quality requirements. Urban sewage and industrial sewage are available nearby, which can avoid long-distance water transportation, and complete local treatment to fully utilize water resources. At the same time, sewage treatment can also prevent sewage leakage during long-distance transportation, leading to groundwater pollution. Sewage reuse has been widely used in many water-scarce areas in the world and is considered a practical skill for sewage treatment in the 21st century.

Comparison of inlet and outlet water quality:

General urban sewage design inlet water quality: BOD5300mg/l; CODcr500mg/l; SS300mg/l; T-N45mg/l

Effluent water quality: BOD510mg/l; NH4-N10.0mg/l; CODcr〈30mg/l; turbidity 5NTU; total coliform count 3/L;

There are many types of membranes. According to the separation mechanism, there are reactive membranes, ion exchange membranes, osmotic membranes, etc.; according to the properties of the membrane, there are natural membranes (biofilms) and composite membranes (organic membranes and inorganic membranes); according to the structural type of the membrane, there are flat plate type, tubular type, spiral type and hollow fiber type, etc.
